The Backroom review (may contain spoilers)
In the Horror Internet short flick "Camera Obscura" Reagan Dale Neis (Clara) is a young girl whose Grandfather just past the way and now she is going thru his belongings to find a book filled with pictures of demons so she decides to get ride of it causing their release… but she also found a camera that is capable to capture them.
Four minutes Klugman (Grandfather's) video message tape is another of the items found among his belongings. Packed under "The Hollow Mask Episode 4" is the best part and perhaps worth the entire film, in his narrative: (Grandpa's), he doesn't only describe the 6 demons with chilling detail but it also explains it how it all started so perfectly: the Hollow Mask test.
In episode 16, It just gets excessively complicated for a lapse after Clara falls for Jason only to realize she has been actually in love with Chad and so on... this particular love situation is not of any benefit for the development of the story as it approaches its end.
After all, everything comes to family matters since Clara realized that she was indeed loved by Grandpa who despite of all the years of alcoholism and neglect actually cared for her, he distanced himself to fight demons to protect her an others.
In conclusion:
Brilliant cinematography for an Internet short film, the narrative and horror still imagery works to its favor in this format but the creature motion effects are lame in contrast, the skipping frames effect worked masterfully but nothing new though.
In a 5 star scale: 3 and a half.
