1st Academy Awards

The 1st Academy Awards were presented on May 16, 1929 at a private dinner held at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. Tickets cost $5 and fewer than 250 people attended. The whole ceremony lasted only 15 minutes. Unlike later events, the winners had been announced months prior to the ceremony. This was also the only Academy Award ceremony not to be broadcast in some way.

Unlike later ceremonies, awards could be granted to an actor or director for multiple works within a year. Emil Jannings, for example, was given the Best Actor award for his work in both The Way of All Flesh and The Last Command.

It's not often that the contents chain letters and emails like this move me to actually feel anything other than the entertainment factor that I secretly think they were intended for...but this has moved me to tears...why?... Because me, and people of my age and generation actually lived through this period of time and knew it happened...In the name of JESUS CHRIST when are the powers that be realise that THEY are doing exactly what they said they would. Why don't we take a leaf out of the Australians book and keep our country as WE want it to be and invite people to come here as long as they abide by our rules....could you imagine if, in 60 years time we tried to erase the history of what is happening in the Muslim countries, and the atrocities that they are commiting in OUR country and the trauma caused by suicide bombers from our carriculum?????
